Redshirt freshman Alec Long of the Murray State football team has been named the 2019 Phil Steele FCS Freshman All-America third team, the publication announced last week.
Long had an outstanding first year for the Racers finishing fourth on the team in tackles with 52. Long also racked up 6.0 tackles-for-loss for a total of 27 yards, while also notching 3.0 sacks for a total loss of 19 yards. In addition, the Jackson, Tennessee native had two pass breakups, a quarterback hurry and a forced fumble.
This marks the second season in a row that Steele has named a Racer to one of his freshman teams after Levi Nesler and Steve Dawson earned the honor last season.
