Murray State linebacker Quincy Williams was selected as the 98th overall and 35th pick of the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft Friday night in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. His third round selection is the highest of any of Murray State’s 20 total draft picks by round and is the second highest by overall pick.
Williams had an outstanding senior season in which he amassed 111 tackles, including 78 solo en route to first-team All-OVC honors and a spot in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.. His 7.1 solo tackles per game not only led the OVC, but they were also the second most in the nation. In addition, the senior had 9.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions, with each of the interception returns going for 80-plus yards and one going for a touchdown.
Williams’ selection Friday night marks the first for the Ohio Valley Conference in the 2019 Draft and the fourth from the FCS. He’s the Racers’ first draftee since 2014 when Walter Powell was taken in the sixth round and is the second player in MSU history to be drafted by the Jaguars, joining Austen Lane in 2010. Williams was also the second member of his family selected in the 2019 NFL Draft, as his brother, Quinnen, went as the third overall pick to the Jets out of Alabama Thursday.
